We need volunteers and donations to make an impact in children’s lives.

The deacons of the Diocese of San Diego are coordinating an event to provide more than a million nutritious meals to children and families living in extreme poverty. About half of the meals will be sent to Tijuana, Mexico, for distribution by the Franciscan Sisters at Casa de los Pobres. The meals also will be sent to  Africa.

Volunteers will come together for three shifts outdoors at Cathedral Catholic High School during one amazing weekend in June to pack nutritious meal bags:

Sat., June 8 | 9:00 – 11:00 AM, and 1:00 – 3:00 PM
Sun., June 9 | 1:00 – 3:00 PM

Volunteers also are needed to set up the event on Friday, and clean-up and break down the site on Sunday.

Parish team members will work at various stations, assembly-line style. It’s all done to upbeat music, which has everyone smiling. This joyful, hands-on experience is family-friendly. There’s a job for everyone, ages four to >90.

How to participate
The event requires $375,000 and 4,000 volunteers.

The deacons invite parishes and groups to participate in two ways. They can raise funds and/or organize teams to pack the meal bags. Every parish or group is invited to do what it can. Individuals and families are invited to participate on their own, too. It’s all hands on deck!
