"Yeah, we have to be 'out of our mind' to do as Jesus would do," says Father Jerry in today's homily, "But to follow Jesus means putting aside the mindset of 'me first / it's not my fault.'" He adds that, "For the sake of what is right and just... For the sake of those we love... For the sake of the common good......

Jesuit Father James Martin, editor-at-large of America Magazine, said during an interview on NPR, "Everyone has a vocation. The most fundamental vocation is to become the person whom God created. A vocation is your deepest identity, whether being called to married life or being a lawyer or a teacher. I believe that our deepest desires, the things that you're drawn to, the person you're called to be, are really God's desires for you....

Today the church celebrates The Feast of Saint Agnes, a beautiful lady killed at a very young age. Although not much is known about Saint Agnes, she was martyred sometime after the year 250. This beautiful young girl died around the age of 12. Although Saint Agnes was killed at a young age she continues to live forever. That is the truth that all martyrs know: the immediate door of death before them opens to paradise for all eternity....

Today the church celebrates Wednesday of the 2nd Week in Ordinary Time. It is also the day on which we inauguration our new President and Vice President. In Father Jerry's homily, he shares the tradition begun by President Ronald Reagan, of leaving a note behind in the Oval Office, for the new president to read. Father Jerry shares portions of the note written by President George H....

In today's Gospel Jesus reclaims the true spirit of the Sabbath. It is more than a designated time, but an attitude and perspective. So, how can we make the unremarkable of this day a Sabbath experience of God's presence? Author Donna Schaper writes "The sense of Sabbath lies in the moment. Such moments can include walking, gardening, homemaking, writing, any activity that steals time back from the chaos of the hectic world. Sharing grace at meals, loving the dishes we are wiping." Hear more in Father Jerry's homily above.

O God of reconciliation and restoration, help us to mend what is torn and to fix what is broken in our lives. Do not let us be satisfied with quick fixes, but set us to the hard work of bringing Your love into our broken, incomplete lives. May we become whole cloth in which Your love infulls those we love....

In today's video, Father Jerry shares not one, not two, but three wonderful stories that encourage us to listen to God, let go, and to not despair. You'll hear about the spelunker caught at the end of his rope in a dark cave, the telegraph operator looking for a new job, and the missionary who accidentally bet in a horse race!...

All Hallows Church

Today the church celebrates Saturday of the 1st Week in Ordinary Time. Let us pray. Almighty and most gentle God who brought forth from the rock a fountain of living water for your thirsty people, bring forth, we pray, from the hardness of our heart, tears of sorrow that we may lament our sins and merit forgiveness from Your mercy....

The San Diego Walk for Life car caravan has been postponed to Saturday, January 30th at 1:00 pm. See Bishop McElroy's statement below. “With deepest regret we must postpone the car caravan for the March for Life celebration until January 30th at 1:00 p.m. Given the violence in Pacific Beach last weekend, I spoke directly with the San Diego Police Department and asked if they could provide assurance that the caravan could proceed this Saturday without complicating efforts to maintain peace there in light of the political demonstrations planned in front of the County Administration Center for this Saturday....
