Saturday of the 11th Week in Ordinary Time

If we are anxious about tomorrow, we will be continually anxious, for tomorrow never arrives!

Too often we find ourselves being torn in several directions at once. The demands of being a spouse, a parent, a son, a daughter, a brother, or sister pull us in several different directions. At the same time, the responsibilities of our jobs, and the expectations of our churches and neighborhoods, and the many organizations that we are a part of, can often lead to exhaustion, confusion and resentment.

Jesus readily acknowledges that tension in our lives. Yes, we have to work to provide for our families, but when our lives become a choice between God and wealth, the greedy pursuit of wealth and the security it provides, we are doomed. Jesus urges us to set our priorities clearly… to focus our time and energy on the things and values of God: compassion, forgiveness, consolation, and justice.
