“So we begin the work of putting Christmas back in its boxes, and store Christmas away for the next 11 months,” says Father Jerry in today’s homily. “But wait a minute. Let’s not box up the manger scene quite yet. Let Jesus stay around! Not the figurine but the spirit of the child of Bethlehem. Especially in this difficult winter when the hope of restoring something resembling normality runs parallel to death and devastation. May we keep burning the light that God has kindled at Christmas. Resolve this second day of the new year to keep Christ before us, that we will make 2021 a year of grace in the face of fear and anxiety.”
