The 6th Sunday of Easter

“I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you,” says Jesus in the Holy Gospel according to John. “In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live.”

Today, Father Jerry shares his hope that comes from the nearly 48 years since his ordination. “My anniversary is May 27th, but May 17th is close enough!” he declared. “Hope is what today’s Gospel message is all about. My first reason for hope is my firm belief in the promise of Jesus.”

“When I first entered the seminary 56 years ago, the church was very different from the church today,” said Father, “The world was very different from the world today. My home parish, Saint Rose of Lima in Chula Vista, was staffed by a pastor, three associates, and five Benedictine nuns in the school.”

Father expresses his appreciation for the educators, talented parish staff, ministry leadership, church volunteers, and “Each and every one of you.” Watch today’s video as Father shares his gratitude for the smiles and handshakes over the years, and for including him in your family milestones.

“Thank you for the gift of your love and trust and friendship, and thank you for the precious gift of your forgiveness,” said Father, “I haven’t always been a perfect priest, but I’ve tried my best.”
