The Feast of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

Today the church celebrates The Feast of Saint Elizabeth Ann Bailey Seton. Raised an Episcopalian, wife and mother of five children, she was the foundress of the first congregation for women religious in the United States, The Sisters of Charity, devoted primarily to the education of the poor and to teaching parochial schools. She was the first native-born citizen of the United States to be canonized by the church.
