Today’s memorial of The Immaculate Heart of Mary celebrates a woman whose life is filled with challenges and crisis not unlike our own. She is the confused teenager who finds herself in crisis, not of her own making, who with the help of her family, finds her way through it. She is the young mother welcoming the birth of her firstborn under the most trying circumstances. She is the distraught mom desperately searching for her child lost in the big city. She is the young spouse trying to make a loving home for her family, in the midst of violence and poverty. She is the devastated mother who watches her son unjustly tried condemned and executed. And she is the ever faithful widow who becomes a wise and loving mother to her son’s friends and disciples.
