Once there was a little doll made of salt. The little salt doll had an urge to see the world and she set off.

One day she came to the edge of the sea. “What are you?” she cried.

“Touch me and you will find out,” the sea answered.

So the little salt doll stuck her toe in and experienced a truly wonderful sensation. But when she withdrew her foot, the toe had disappeared. “What have you done to me?” she cried.

“You have given something of yourself in order to understand,” the sea replied.

What the little salt doll does next may be shocking or downright disturbing to some — as it relates to the challenge of today’s gospel… to lose ourselves in the love of God.
