The Feast of Saint Monica

Today the church celebrates The Feast of Saint Monica, the mother of Saint Augustine. The circumstances of Saint Monica’s life could have made her a nagging wife, a bitter daughter-in-law, and a despairing parent. Yet she did not give way to any of these temptations. From the day her son Augustine was born, until the day of his baptism as an adult on Easter in 387, Monica stormed heaven with prayers for her son’s conversion.
