Trinity Sunday

Saint Augustine was walking along the seashore, contemplating how God could be three persons in one God. He encountered a little boy filling his bucket with water from the sea and emptying it into a hole he had dug in the sand. Augustine asked the boy, “What are you doing?”

The boy responded, “I’m putting the ocean into the hole I just dug.”

Augustine chuckled and said, “You will never be able to put the whole ocean into that small hole!”

To which the boy replied, “I will sooner be able to pour the ocean into this hole, than you will be able to figure out the mystery of the Trinity.”

Father Jerry says in today’s homily, “God is a community of persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And God’s life force is love. And since our need to be in relationship with God and with other people is built into our very nature, and is the only way that you and I will find true and lasting joy, we need to recommit ourselves today to putting our relationships at the center of our lives where they belong… Which means loving God and others in the way that we ourselves want to be loved.”
