We sometimes disconnect going to church from being church, the ritual of baptism from the life of baptism, the communion host from a sacramental encounter with God. We revise history to reflect where we would like to think we’ve come from. We construct a narrative to explain an idea we struggle to understand. Christ calls us in today’s Gospel to worship God with the integrity of our hearts, to live the words of the prayers that have become wrote in our lives.
