Wednesday of the 14th Week in Ordinary Time

“It’s sometimes very hard to imagine that this is the kingdom of heaven, right now, right here,” says Father Jerry, “Heaven would be this terrible virus suddenly disappearing, or at least a safe, effective vaccine becoming available to all. Heaven would be some sense of normal. Heaven would be peace among all races and communities. In such a heaven, people of color would no longer fear police, and police and those in government would approach their work as a call to service. Quite a heaven, that would be!”

So Jesus calls the twelve, and now us, you and me, to proclaim that heaven is at hand. We now take up the work that Jesus entrusted to Simon and Andrew and company to proclaim heaven in our simple everyday acts of selfless kindness and charity.
