Today the church celebrates The Feast of Saint Martin de Porres. Martin was born in Lima, Peru, of a Spanish father and a black slave mother. He was a lay brother who humbly ministered to the poor and the sick, especially African slaves.

Devoted to the Holy Eucharist, he was a close friend of Saint Rose of Lima, Patron of Social Justice, and of peoples of mixed races.
